| The Japanese sword is truly an
incredible work of art. The katana, or long sword, had a
scabbard called a saya. This saya has a wrapping of stingray
skin (same) which increases the strength of the saya and also adds
to its beauty. The tsuba on this particular sword is in the
motif of a gourd and the handle wrapping is silk.
