This sculpture is carved on natural slate and includes a hanging framework made of bamboo and jute.  The Japanese calligraphy reads "Kendo" and roughly translates to "The way of the sword".  Kendo is a Japanese swordsmanship martial art and sport.   The characters on this piece are carved into the surface of the slate
