This sculpture is carved on natural slate and includes a hanging framework made of bamboo and jute.  The Japanese calligraphy reads "Kyudo" and roughly translates to "The way of the bow". Kyudo is a Japanese Archery martial art. The characters are carved by hand with a chisel and then is accentuated with dark pigment.
